Cumin prices declined due to increase in production

This month the prices of cumin have fallen by more than 10 percent. It is being told that the prices of cumin may remain sluggish in future also. Last year, the price of cumin had reached a record level and crossed Rs 65 thousand per quintal. There is a slowdown in the price of cumin this month.
The prices of cumin have been continuously falling for the last 15 days. On March 11, the April contract of cumin had touched the day's high of Rs 26,540 on the commodity exchange National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange. After this this contract fell to the day's low of Rs 23,415 per quintal today. In this way, the futures prices of cumin have decreased by more than 10 percent in the last 15 days. During this period, the wholesale price of cumin in Unjha, the important market of cumin, has come down from Rs 26,500 to Rs 24,500 per quintal.
The production of cumin is expected to increase significantly this year. According to business estimates, 90 to 95 lakh bags of cumin can be produced in the country this year. Last year 55 to 60 lakh bags (55 kg) were produced. In this way, the production of cumin has increased by more than 60 percent this year. According to commodity experts, the reason for cumin becoming cheaper is the increase in arrival of cumin due to increase in production. This year the production of cumin has increased significantly and the arrival of cumin is in full swing at this time. Therefore, due to increase in arrivals the prices of cumin are falling.
This month, till March 25, 68,513 tonnes of cumin has arrived in the mandis, which is 28.83 percent more than the arrival of 53,179 tonnes in the same period last year. Arrivals in the main producing state Gujarat have increased by about 30 percent and in Rajasthan by about 20 percent.
